Trevor Noah is possibly South Africa’s most well-known comedian, and has beaten the odds in his rise to fame. Noah was born a mixed-race child to a white father and black mother in 1984 during apartheid, when there were measures in South Africa that legally separated races. The population was classified into four groups: white, Indian, coloured, and black, and black people were stripped of their South African citizenship from 1970 until the 1990s.
Noah had a somewhat circuitous path getting to where he is, first acting in a South African soap opera and then hosting various radio and TV shows before dedicating his life to comedy. Once he moved to comedy full-time, Noah gained exposure by opening for international comedians Russell Peters and Gabriel Iglesias.
Trevor Noah performances draw on his experience growing up in his hometown and dealing with race and ethnicity. In January 2012, Noah made history by becoming the first South African comedian to appear on The Tonight Show and continued to draw attention to his comedy in the U.S. by appearing on Chelsea Lately.
Make sure to buy your Trevor Noah tickets soon, as this South African comedian is no longer a well-kept secret.
