San Antonio, Ibiza –
With its panoramic views, relaxed atmosphere, and true Ibizan hippie-chic crowd, Kumharas is an amazing place to enjoy the famous island sunsets.
The earthy décor only adds to the laid-back vibe, with sprawls of sofas and rattan tables that fill the open-air, thatch-roofed terrace and offer front-row seating for the main event.
Behind the terrace stands a giant stone tower flanked by the Bedouin-style restaurant and lounge, which features cushioned floor seating as well as standard wooden chairs and tables.
Off to the side of the restaurant is an open market where guests can walk through a row of stalls selling handmade clothing, jewelry, and other artisan crafts. In the hours before sunset, the terrace and the beach in front of it begin to fill with a buzzing crowd waiting in anticipation.
Afterwards, the music kicks in as sensual lighting takes over where the fading rays of the sun left off.
Although the mostly bohemian clientele has been known to indulge in some all-night dancing, the focus at Kumharas is definitely more on lounging, listening to music, and wandering between the terrace and the beach.
Kumharas is located a bit out of town, so plan accordingly to get there and back, especially after the buses stop running. The bar can also be reached on foot via a scenic coastal pathway that starts from San Antonio Beach – just walk south for about thirty minutes.
All types, but mostly locals and hippies, early 20s+.
Ambient music at sundown and a range of musical events thereafter, from Indian tunes to reggae. Sundays feature Kumharas Sessions, a mix of live music and video projections featuring international artists. Market vendors sell jewelry, crafts, and textiles.
Innovative Asian menu in the restaurant, French crêpes at the crêpe stand near the entrance.
Prix fixe menu €14. Beer €3, mixed drinks €6, shots €4.
Casual.
Any day from sunset onward, and Sundays for the Kumharas Sessions.
Cala de Bou beach is located just in front of the bar and is ideal for those who prefer to bring their own drinks while still attending the party.
