Juan-les-Pins, French Riviera –
For a bit of relaxation or to enjoy some relatively inexpensive water sports, it’s hard to beat the sandy beaches just south of Antibes.
Completely free to the public, Plage du Ponteil offers a serene location from which to admire the natural beauty of the French Riviera, including the ancient fortress that now holds the old town of Antibes and the beautiful villas scattered in the forest.
Adventurous types can rent equipment for sailing, jet skiing, and kayaking from the many stands along the beach, or join in on one of the late afternoon pick-up volleyball or rugby games.
And, of course, since Plage du Ponteil always draws a crowd of sunbathers, there’s plenty of opportunity to meet the young and the bronzed.
All types of all ages.
Water sports. Equipment for rent at the stands along the beach.
Food stands sell sandwiches, ice cream, beverages, and mergueze, a typical French beach snack consisting of North African spicy sausage in a baguette with fries.
Kayaks €5/hour, sailing €20+/hour, jet skis €50/hour.
Beachwear.
Anytime during the day, though the beach is also a popular place for watching the sunset over a picnic dinner and a bottle of wine.
