Florence Christmas Overview

Though Christmas is a Christian holiday, it has taken on a much more universal and magical meaning on the global calendar thanks to images of Santa Claus, carolers, winter wonderlands, and scrumptious meals.

In many cities, the weather outside is pretty frightful during the Christmas season. Though the temps are pretty mild in Florence, families still huddle up to exchange gifts, sing some classic Xmas tunes, and drink a whole lot of spiked eggnog.

In addition to family time, Xmas season in Florence means a stocking’s worth of fantastic Christmas parties around town. It’s impossible not feel a little bit of the yuletide spirit at the various Christmas markets that pop up around town. The popular German Christmas Market, held in Piazza Santa Croce, is chock-full of kid’s toys, nativity depictions, and various holiday knickknacks.

Florentine citizens hear the sounds of the seasons at various street corners, cafés, bars, pubs, and concert halls throughout the city. There are free Christmas concerts almost nightlight in small and large churches, allowing attendees to save some much needed dough to purchase Xmas presents.

It’s hard to be a scrooge in Florence during Christmastime. Check out one of these magical events and get swept away in the season!
