Justin Timberlake Bio

Justin Timberlake

American singer-songwriter, actor, and entertainer, Justin Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1981. Timberlake's journey from boy band frontman to actor and innovative solo musician has reflected his development as one of the greatest artists of this generation.

He first got his start on Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club, along with other future 90s pop stars, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and bandmate JC Chasez. In the late 90s, Timberlake was the lead singer of boy band N*SYNC, which dominated pop culture of the decade, most famous for the catchy hit "Bye Bye Bye." After the dissolution of N*SYNC in 2002, Timberlake embarked on a successful acting and solo music career.

He made his solo debut in 2002 with Justified, which featured singles "Cry Me a River," "Senorita," and "Rock Your Body." On top of selling over 10 million copies worldwide, this album earned Timberlake two Grammys – Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. By collaborating with distinguished artists and producers, such as Timbaland, The Neptunes, and Janet Jackson, Timberlake broke away from his teenage boy band image.

Timberlake continued his winning streak in 2006 with the release of FutureSex/LoveSounds. Again, he joined forces with Timbaland, as well as T.I., Will.i.am, and Danja, and the result was an experimental fusion of techno, funk, and hip hop with his signature pop-R&B sound. It sold over ten million copies worldwide and was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. FutureSex/LoveSounds is also notable for the music video of "What Goes Around… Comes Around," an emotionally charged nine-minute short film starring Scarlett Johansen as his cheating mistress.

He adopted major roles in Alpha Dog, The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits, and Trouble with the Curve, and consequently established himself as a crossover pop star and actor who has legitimate talent in both areas, atypical of many crossover pop stars today.

When he's not in front of the camera or in the studio, Justin Timberlake's live shows attract a generous following. He's known for delivering entertaining, charismatic concerts by interacting with the audience and performing visually stunning musical productions with bold choreography and wildly sexy dancers.

Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience (2013) will features collaborations with Timbaland, JAY Z, and other reputable producers. In the single "Suit & Tie" (whose accompanying music video was directed by David Fincher), Timberlake embraced his long-awaited return to the music world.

After much speculation about whether he would retire from music during his four-year break between 2006’s smash album Future Sex/Love Sounds and his budding acting career, Justin Timberlake shows us exactly why good things come to those who wait. The 20/20 Experience evokes the feeling of a dormant phoenix rising from the ash. Unlike Future Sex/Love Sounds, an exclusively pop affair, Timberlake employs multiple genres and grand horn and string ensembles that add new dimensions to his music. The majority of songs are 7-8 minutes, which for some artists would signal a Top 40 death sentence — but this isn’t a Top 40 album. Fans expecting a pop album from a pop man will be shocked that Timberlake has departed from such conventions and moved onto a new concept album that’s only part one of the entire Experience he promises to deliver.

I am a major fan of Justin Timberlake! He was my favorite member of N'SYNC and he stole the scene and proved that he was a true artist when he came out with Justified and FutureSex/Lovesounds. But even though everyone loves the 20/20 Experience, his new album after a 7-year hiatus, I feel that JT could've done better. Don't get me wrong, there are some great things happening on that album. JT and Timbaland can never truly go wrong, but why are all the songs averaging 7:30 minutes? Many of the songs also sound really similar and I feel there is no true direction to the album. Most of the songs are good, Pusher Love and Don't Hold the Wall happen to be two of my favorites, but I feel that Justin could've done a lot better, especially for being gone from the music world for so long.

I am old enough to remember JT back when he was the prime member of NSYNC. I remember him also having excellent solo albums. But these days this man is an actor and honestly he’s pretty good at it. I enjoyed watching him in movies like Alpha Dog and The Social Network to name a few and maybe one day he will be nominated for an Oscar or something. But I honestly do not wish to keep seeing him in new movies. Justin needs to get back (not sexyback no pun intended) in the Pop game ASAP!!!
