Restaurants in the West Loop Overview

Bottom Lounge - Live Music Venue in West Loop, Chicago

A neighborhood with a stretch called “restaurant row” is going to have seriously good eats. The West Loop has Randolph Street, home to some of the best, most innovative restaurants in the city. The upscale neighborhood has major destinations throughout, and West Loop restaurants glut up the best-of lists in Chicago every year.

2010 Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard, a native daughter who happened to win the Chicago season of the show, is one of the city’s most beloved figures. Her venture, Girl & the Goat, with its adjoining casual diner Little Goat, is a major draw for locals and visitors. Tantalizing plates of veggies, fish, and, yes, plenty of takes on goat give Girl & the Goat wide appeal among everyone from hardcore foodies to adventurous groups of trendy friends. Less expensive Little Goat next door lets diners experience Izard’s creative cuisine without the waits or the prices of the main house.

Another local celebrity chef, Bill Kim, is known for his trendy BYOB Asian noodle houses. His Randolph Street venture, Belly Q, has Korean barbecue, tabletop grilling, and a karaoke room in a spare, industrial setting.

Off of the Randolph stretch, newcomer Ruxbin has impressed food critics nationwide, and the wait times for the 28-seat restaurant are worth it for the food. The whimsical candlelit restaurant, after all, has a Michelin star, and both GQ and Bon Appetit have named it one of the country’s best restaurants.

Celebrity chefs and major press surround restaurants in the West Loop, but it’s not all hype; past the lines and the prices is incomparable food and exciting crowds.
