Held annually for 16 days, Oktoberfest lures partiers from around the globe to celebrate the sounds, sights, and flavors of Bavaria. Started in Munich in 1810 to commemorate the royal wedding of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen, Oktoberfest celebrations take place from the end of September to the first weekend in October. This booze-filled festival features traditional German foods, music, cultural demonstrations, and plenty of brews.
At Oktoberfest in Chicago, official 2018 Oktoberfest celebrations take place throughout the city. Ravers and EDM fans can dance the night away at Oktoberfest club nights to some of the biggest electronic dance music DJs in the country. Beer lovers can indulge in craft beer tastings at the Berghoff Oktoberfest at the John C. Kluczynski Federal Plaza, complete with live music by bands like the Johnny Wagner Band. And culture hounds can eat, drink, and dance their hearts out at the St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest or the free Oktoberfest on Federal Plaza.
Brew lovers rejoice with some of the Windy City’s best beers, served alongside Bavarian brews exclusively made in ancient breweries in Munich. Foodies can fill up on pretzels, sauerkraut, bratwurst, and other German dishes, while music fans can dance to all the brass band sounds their ears can handle. From tunes to brews, there’s something for everyone at the 2018 Oktoberfest in Chicago.
