Alabama Shakes was birthed in Athens, Alabama in 2009. With singer Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg on guitar, Zac Cockrell on bass, and Steve Johnson on drums, Alabama Shakes makes down and dirty roots rock that harkens back to iconic giants like Janis Joplin.
In 2011, Alabama Shakes released their self-titled four-song EP, which soon garnered buzz on music blogs and NPR. Later that year, a career-launching performance at CMJ helped the band sign with Rough Trade Records in the UK and ATO in the US. Alabama Shakes released their debut full-length album, Boys & Girls, in 2012. The debut topped the charts in the UK and the US and was certified gold in the UK.
Alabama Shakes has gained millions of fans through their records and appearances on shows like Conan, the Late Show with David Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The band has a reputation for putting on an energetic concert and was nominated for the 2012 mtvU Woodie in Best Live Performance.
