As what is probably the next “up-and-coming” neighborhood of Boston, Fort Point is a good area to go for groups that are looking to be trendsetters. With just a few notable bars and restaurants in the area, as well as some small shops and cafés set amidst the art studios and galleries, this neighborhood is never very loud, as it is still somewhat of a hidden gem.
The Waterfront is good for groups that enjoy a view with their evening out. The Institute of Contemporary Art, or ICA, regularly hosts First Friday events each month, with guest DJs, live performances, specialty drinks, and dancing all set on the museum decks at the Boston Harbor's edge.
The Barking Crab, a legendary seafood joint on the docks at the mouth of Fort Point Channel, right near Fan Pier, is a wildly popular summer hang-out, serving up some of the city's best seafood, with a lively wait staff and family-style seating. The place even has live music on certain evenings throughout the summer, making it good for groups who want to grab a beer with their fish and chips and rock out.
The newly coined “Innovation District,” which borders the Waterfront and Fort Point neighborhoods, is constantly changing, with new developments in the works that will be bringing in new restaurants, bars, and other venues perfect for group outings. Definitely a neighborhood to watch.
