Boston Drinking Overview

Charlie’s Kitchen - Beer Garden | Dive Bar | Live Music Venue | Restaurant in Boston

Are there great spots for drinking in Boston? Is the Pope Catholic? No matter where you turn in this boozy, blue-collar town, there are watering holes of all kinds just waiting to help you wet your whistle outside of the normal bar and club.

For Red Sox fans with or without tickets looking to get a little rowdy before, during, or after the game, there’s a Fenway spot that’s perfect for all kinds of drinking activity called Boston Beer Works. The venue brews its own beers, which tipsy patrons can marvel at through glass windows that display the stainless steel tanks. There are a dozen or so microbrews on tap and plenty of bar food to keep the wheels fully greased for that seventh inning stretch.

Another classic drinking spot is Charlie’s Kitchen, which features a warm-weather beer garden for MIT and Harvard students to relax in, drink some heavy brews, and study for those spring exams. The joint also features karaoke, trivia nights, and the occasional live band.

Finding solid Boston drinking spots doesn’t have to be relegated to the warm parts of the year, but it’s certainly a perk when you can chill outside, grab a cold one, and watch the game while soaking up some rays.
