Back Bay, Boston –
Styled to imitate the quiet, dim café’s that were popular in Manhattan in the 1960s, Back Bay Social Club draws a mix of creative college students looking for conversation and older corporate types on the hunt for vintage cocktails.
Located directly across the street from the Hynes Convention Center, the bar features a daytime scene that usually finds young professionals settling in at the red leather booths and dark mahogany bar, loosening their ties and cuffs in anticipation of “Life Changing” Banana Pudding and a few Gin Somethins, a cocktail made with gin, St. Germain, grapefruit juice, and muddled limes.
Vintage art and boxing posters adorn the walls, and a large chalkboard near the bar touts an ever-changing list of seasonal drinks and menu specials like grilled swordfish and moules frittes.
Casual sports lovers catch the game on a few flat-screens above the bar, or join larger groups in the downstairs dining area, where white tablecloths, antique sconces, and checkered floors maintain the vibe of a bygone era.
Evenings and brunch weekends trend younger at the venue, when unpretentious, smartly dressed groups file in en masse to fuel up on the signature Social Burger and a few rounds of Harvey Wallbangers or Hemingway Daiquiris.
With a down-to-earth vibe and old-fashioned décor, Back Bay Social Club makes it easy to be social long into the night.
Diverse mix of young professionals, college students, convention-goers, and older business types, 20s to late 30s.
Varied iPod playlists featuring eclectic tunes from reggae to the Grateful Dead. Three flat-screen TVs tuned to sports. Occasional wine and scotch tastings. Seasonal patio. Free Wi-Fi.
Varied menu offers dishes ranging from chicken and waffles to rotating specials like pan-roasted cod, grilled swordfish, and other seasonal dishes. Menu available until 1:30am daily.
Brunch menu $9–$21, appetizers $7–$14, sandwiches and pasta $10–$21, entrées $16–$36, desserts $7–$8. Beer $4–$14, wine $9–$15/glass or $35–$70/bottle, cocktails $11–$14, house punch $36.
Smart casual to business attire: nice tops, jeans, comfortable dresses, suits.
