Anyone looking for an authentic taste of Dublin in the heart of Jamaica Plain should head to Brendan Behan’s Pub, a laid-back neighborhood watering hole where it’s all about friendly chitchat and good beer.
Dimly lit with a constant soundtrack of indie hits and rock classics, the tiny bar offers over twenty-five draft beers and an impressive selection of Irish whiskeys that bring in a loyal crowd of locals, hipsters, and students nearly every night.
Drinking buddies and lone wolves belly up to the traditional mahogany bar to chat by the light of the aquarium, while groups of artists, musicians, and creative young professionals settle in with their pints at the oval tables near the entrance.
Although packed to the rafters on the weekends, Brendan Behan’s maintains a relaxed and kick-back atmosphere where even dogs are welcome.
Creative young professionals, artists, musicians, and hipsters, mostly mid-20s to 30s.
Playlist of indie and classic rock. Occasional live acoustic music. Trivia on Tuesdays. Darts.
None. Patrons are welcome to bring in food from outside venues. Dog friendly. Cash only. ATM in building.
Beer $5+/draft or $13–$15/Beer for Two, cocktails $7.
Casual: jeans, vintage duds, t-shirts, hoodies.
Tuesdays for trivia and Friday and Saturday nights for the biggest drinking crowds.
Several nearby restaurants, including Food Wall (387 Centre Street), provide Chinese and Szechuan take-out that patrons can bring into Brendan Behan’s.
