Chinatown / Leather District, Boston –
A swanky playground for affluent professionals, party girls, and the occasional Celtics point guard, District Lounge is a hopping nightspot tucked away in the city’s up-and-coming Leather District.
Fashionable patrons who make it past the nondescript door, or who are lucky enough to be on the guest list, will be ushered into a dim hallway leading to a spacious chamber where sexy twenty-somethings shake it to Top 40 hits and hip-hop.
Walls lined with birch tree trunks, glossy white and floral chandeliers, and scattered black and white ottomans create a luxe ambiance for the well-heeled clientele that gathers at the cocktail tables or crowds into white patent leather booths to indulge in a few martinis and some heavy flirting.
Various theme nights gets a changing crowd from night to night, with a more sophisticated set stopping in on Classic Wednesdays and Status Saturdays, and jocks, coeds, and international types tossing back shots on Thursdays and Fridays.
The place can definitely get rowdy as tipsy patrons take to the dance floor, but those in need of a breather need only slip down the hall to the lounge, where a long banquette and a comfy black bed behind gauzy curtains provide plenty of space for mingling with VIPs over bottle service.
Posh but unpretentious, District Lounge is the place for club lovers looking for a touch of class.
Upscale mix of entertainment industry people, young professionals, post-grad frat types, party girls, internationals, and the occasional celeb or pro athlete, mid-20s to late 30s.
Classic Wednesdays feature DJs spinning Top 40 tunes; In Thursdays feature hip-hop and urban beats; Fridays feature global house music and a live jazz band in the early evening; and Status Saturdays feature a mix of 80s, 90s, and Top 40 music.
Wednesdays will soon feature Ladies’ Night, with special events like manicures or fashion shows, and Wii Love Wiine, during which patrons can play their favorite Wii games. Reservations required every night.
Small menu featuring glazed pork tenderloin, sesame ginger chicken bites, and risotto with veal ragout.
Occasional cover charge $10/special events. Entrées $7–$16. Beer $6–$11, wine $8–$13, cocktails $12–$18, bottle service $300–$500.
Nice casual to dressy: guys in button-downs, Affliction t-shirts and jeans, girls wearing Bebe, sparkly dresses and heels.
Wednesdays for the crowd of industry types and local celebrities, and Fridays and Saturdays when young professionals pack the house for music and dancing. Lines form after 11pm.
Splash Ultra Lounge (150 Kneeland Street) features an upscale Miami- and Vegas-inspired vibe and décor, with a sultry crowd to match.
