The Fenway area probably has the greatest concentration of decidedly group-oriented activities, with a great variety of clubs, restaurants, music venues, and of course, Fenway Park. This makes this particular neighborhood good for groups.
At the nearby Landmark Center, groups can go on shopping trips or take in a movie at the Regal 13 Cinema. Also in the area are two of Boston's greatest art museums, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. Both of these spots are ideal for groups looking for a more intellectual evening out, as both offer lecture and music programs geared towards younger folks.
Lansdowne Street has a high concentration of bars and clubs, as well as the House of Blues Boston, which regularly gets nationally-known musical acts to perform in their 3-story music venue.
The nearby parks area along the Muddy River, Back Bay Fens, and Riverway, as part of the Emerald Necklace of Boston, are great for outdoor activities, as they contain baseball/softball diamonds, basketball courts, tracks, public gardens, bike and walking paths, as well as plenty of space for picnicking or just sitting out on the grass with a blanket.
Kenmore Square has a few restaurants and bars that are good for groups, including Eastern Standard and The Hawthorne, just be sure to avoid these areas right before a Red Sox home game, lest your group get crowded out.
