Free Things to Do in Downtown Boston / Financial District Overview

City Hall Plaza - Event Space in Downtown / Financial District, Boston

The largest green space in the Financial District, Post Office Square Park, is a privately managed, publicly accessible park located above a major underground parking garage. The park contains fountains, brick walkways, benches, a gorgeous vine-covered pergola, and dozens of species of plants and trees. During lunches on weekdays in the summer, free outdoor concerts are often given on the main lawn, and weatherproof cushions are made available to the public in order to make themselves comfortable while sitting in the audience.

Both the Downtown and Financial District areas are very high traffic zones, so many businesses choose street corners in these neighborhoods to station crews for handing out samples of new products to try. Even commercially sponsored food trucks will occasionally roll into town and park downtown and pass out everything from smoothies, to yogurt, to coffee drinks, to pizza for free for folks to try.

The Quincy Market area in Downtown also has lots of free things to do throughout the year, including yoga classes, dance contests, arts and crafts programs, and others. This area is also known for the variety of street performers that make their way through the market, putting on tricks and attempting daring stunts that will impress audiences that are able to get as close as a just a few feet away to watch.
