Berlin Drinking Overview

Cassiopeia - Beer Garden | Club | Outdoor Activity in Berlin

When it comes to drinking in Berlin, there is an incredible array of options beyond the typical bars and clubs, from timeless beer halls and beer gardens to bustling breweries.

Some of the best Berlin drinking spots are invariably the classic beer halls and gardens. One of the oldest and most popular hangouts is Prater Garden in Prenzlauer Berg. Around since 1837, the Garden features its own unique beers, Prater Pils and Prater Schwarzbier, and the thousand or so seats are consistently packed with Berliners happy to drink either one.

Another age-old haunt is Weihenstephaner in Mitte. Weihenstephan is known as the world’s oldest brewery, which is actually in Freising, Germany, and dates back over a thousand years. Weihenstephaner is their satellite restaurant, bar, and beer garden that serves up their classic brew with a hearty supply of wursts and schnitzel.

For yet another great drinking hang, there’s Hops and Barley in Friedrichshain. This brewery and bar has some excellent self-brewed options on tap like their Hefeweizen or the Dunkel and prides itself on its “no beer for Nazis” policy.

For some old-school drinking, Berlin is a beer haven and provides visitors and locals with countless options in timeless settings.
