The Theater des Westens (the Theatre of the West) is one of the most famous and regal theatres for musicals and operettas in Berlin. First opened in 1896 the theater is located in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district.
From 1896 to the 1930s the Theater des Westens was dedicated to operas and operettas hosting performances that included such European stars as Italian tenor Enrico Caruso and the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova.
In 1961 the Theater des Westens premiered My Fair Lady, the first ever musical performed in Germany. Other musicals at the Theater since then have included Guys and Dolls, La Cage Aux Folles (A Cage of Fools) and Les Misérables. In 2013 the highly successful War Horse will premiere at the Theater des Westens.
In 2002 the Theater des Westens was bought by Stage Entertainment and renamed the Stage Theater des Westens.
Capacity at the Theater des Westens is approximately 1,700.
