The Velodrom is located in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. Like the Max-Schmeling-Halle, it was built for Berlin’s unsuccessful bid to host the 2000 summer Olympics.
The Velodrom was designed by French architect Dominique Perrault. The 142-meter diameter roof of the Velodrom is Europe’s largest steel roof.
Aside from track cycling at the Velodrom, other sporting events, trade shows, and concerts are hosted here.
With a capacity of around 12,000 people, the Velodrom was Berlin’s largest concert venue until the opening of the O2 World in 2008.
Concerts at the Velodrom have included performances by the Gorillaz, Bryan Adams, Kylie Minogue, Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, and Meat Loaf.
