Germany Men's National Soccer Team

Germany’s men’s national football team is part of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) confederation and plays in stadiums across Germany, the most common being Olympiastadion in Berlin. The stadium was completed in 1936 and holds a little over 74,000 fans for German matches. The team first started kicking the ball around in 1908, but split up following World War II to form West Germany, East Germany, and Saarland. Since Germany and their three teams’ unification in 1990, the records of all teams have been absorbed into the current national team’s history. The team competes within UEFA, FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) events, and smaller friendlies and tournaments. Die Mannschaft “The Team” won the 1954, 1974, and 1990 World Cup titles, also winning three Euro championships in 1972, 1980, and 1996. While not winning any substantial titles since the turn of the century, Die Mannschaft has stayed relevant consistently advancing to the late rounds of major tournaments. Some of the more notable Germany players have included Franz Beckenbauer “Der Kaiser”, Lothar Matthäus, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Miroslav Klose.
