Berliner Neujahrslauf (New Year's Run) Description

Berliner Neujahrslauf (New Year's Run) - Holiday Event | Running in Berlin.

Since 1972, runners of all abilities have shaken off their hangovers to celebrate New Year’s Day with the annual Berliner Neujahrslauf (New Year’s Run). This traditional New Year’s run takes pace each year in Berlin and stretches from the iconic Brandenburg Gate to the historic Berlin Cathedral along the Unter den Linden street.

The Berliner Neujahrslauf is open to runners of all ages and levels and no registration is required. Each year, the Unter den Linden is closed to traffic, allowing runners and spectators to see the city’s center and popular sights without the noise of the cars that typically cram this bustling street. Over three thousand runners brave the cold to start the year off right with this traditional run.

The Berliner Neujahrslauf is free to both runners and spectators. In place of tickets, the organizers of the Berliner Neujahrslauf ask for donations to the Björn Schulz Foundation.

There is no parking available at the Berliner Neujahrslauf, so take advantage of the nearby public transport stops, including the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz stations. After taking part in the run or cheering on a friend, pick up some energy at the restaurants, bars, or cafés nearby in the Mitte district.
