Lounges in Prenzlauer Berg Overview

La Bodeguita del Medio - Cuban Bar | Cuban Restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin

Squashed between Mitte and Friedrichshain, Prenzlauer Berg has known something of what some might call a reverse Renaissance over the past fifteen years. After the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, squatters, punks, and immigrants took over many of the buildings and turned the neighborhood into a testing ground for alternative politics and lifestyles.

More recently, the money has arrived and Prenzlauer Berg has been gentrified, forcing many of the alternative set to make room for a more affluent crowd and clientele for the neighborhoods bar's, cafés, and lounges.

Lounges in Prenzlauer Berg are concentrated in the area surrounding the Eberwalder Strasse U-Bahn stop. At night, this part of the neighborhood is a hotspot of bars, clubs, and restaurants and brings in trendy crowds of young and old from around the city.

In Prenzlauer Berg, lounges like Wohnzimmer, Scotch and Soda, and Zu mir oder zu dir cater to a younger crowd of well-dressed twenty-something hipsters and Berlin’s middle class. Unlike lounges in the multi-ethnic Kreuzberg or Neukölln, Prenzlauer Berg lounges will generally not have floor seating or hookah pipes.
