Comedy Sportz at Comedy Club Kookaburra Description

Comedy Sportz at Comedy Club Kookaburra - Comedy Show in Berlin.

Not comedy about sports, but comedy played as a sport! Finally, a fun, fast-paced comedy show that's great fun for all ages and audiences... and its in English!

It's ComedySportz, an award-winning interactive comedy show where two teams of "act-letes" compete for audience laughs and points while improvising scenes, games, operas and musicals based on audience suggestions.

A referee calls fouls and keeps the match moving at a blistering pace. The audience is always a part of the interactive show, giving suggestions for every game, voting for the winners and sometimes even winding up on stage!

I saw these guys at the Expat Expo back in February and they did not disappoint. While I have never understood the drama of actual sports, Comedy Sportz had me sitting at the edge of my seat and probably for the same reason people watch football: you don’t know how it’s going to end. So the name, while weird at first, proves to be quite apt. Unlike rehearsed stand-up, there are lulls and some downtime, but it’s wonderful to see the group make magic together. Memorable moments include a rendition of a twistedly wicked Irish granny and the use of random Craig’s list dating adverts to kick off new ad-lib games. The crowd that attends these events is mostly comprised of non-German English speaking residents of Berlin, so a mixture of Americans, Canadians, Israelis and Brits. Expect lots of friendly mingling during the intermission and after the show over glasses of cheap Chardonnay and bottles of Berliner Pilsner.
