Ask any regular, and they’ll tell you that Wohnzimmer (Living Room) is one of those rare places that successfully bridge the gap between café and bar.
During the day, patrons can enjoy the café’s self-service German breakfast staples like croissants, quiches, and meat and cheese platters in a quaint tea-room setting or, in the summer, linger over brunch on the pleasant outdoor patio.
As night falls, however, the focus shifts to the Victorian-themed interior where the clientele sinks into tufted overstuffed armchairs around antique coffee tables. Warm wood floors and bold floral patterns tie the décor together to create a well-worn but stylish environment.
The venue’s two rooms, situated on either side of the central bar and split between smokers and non-smokers, begin filling up around 9pm when groups of well-dressed 20-somethings gather to converse and peruse the extensive cocktail menu to a soundtrack of trendy house and indie music.
Weekends, meanwhile, draw the largest crowds as patrons show up to listen to the DJs spin and to sip caipirinhas and mojitos until the wee hours.
Like partying in an old apartment without having to clean up afterwards, Wohnzimmer is the ideal joint for patrons to fill up on grub, tank up on grog, and maybe chair dance to a little Guetta.
The late-night crowd is fabulous, but battling through the long lines at the main bar can be tough! If your patience is wearing thin, just duck into the drink station tucked away in the back room. A lot of people don’t know about it, so it’s a good way to avoid the elbowing on those busy weekends.
People of all types and ages for the café, with an international 20+ crowd taking over after dark.
DJs on weekends and holidays. Usually indie, techno, or house.
Breakfast items, tortes, cakes, and upscale snacks. Monthly cocktail special.
Breakfast menu €2.90–€5, tortes and cakes €2–€3. Beer €2.60–€3, wine €3–€7, cocktails €4.50–€6.50, non-alcoholic drinks €1.80–€2.20.
Smart casual.
Weekend nights after 9pm.
