Dusty trophies and vintage football jerseys adorn the brick and stone walls of Black Horse, a popular English pub in El Born where a convivial crowd of British expats, rowdy Spaniards, and a smattering of dehydrated wanderers indulge in pints and friendly chatter.
Known as one of the best British/Irish pubs in the city, the place really packs in the crowds on the weekends and for any FC Barcelona or British football match.
Despite its four rooms, the pub is anything but spacious, so patrons in search of televised sports are advised to arrive early if they want an unimpeded view of one of the big screens.
The best seats are in the small middle and back rooms and are quickly filled with boisterous local fans on game day, while a more international group props up the bar and strains for a view between pints.
Darts, ales on tap, and quiz nights on Sundays offer a genuine slice of England, but rather than warm their cockles beside a roaring fire, most of the Black Horse’s patrons don their sunglasses on the sun-soaked terrace outside – a perfect combination of English hospitality and Spanish weather.
Friendly expats and Spaniards keen to practice their English, mid-20s to 40s.
All major European sports televised, including football, rugby, golf, and Formula 1, as well as every FC Barcelona match. Pub quiz on Sunday evenings.
Chips and nuts.
Beer €3.80+, cider €5.50, mixed drinks €6+.
Casual.
Great atmosphere during major sports events and a good, busy crowd all week long.
