Casino l'Aliança del Poblenou Information

Casino l'Aliança del Poblenou - Concert Venue | Performing Arts Center in Barcelona.

Casino de l'Aliança, originally called Societat l'Aliança, is an organization created in 1868 by Lluis Remisa in Barcelona, Spain that was centered around cultural, social, and mutualist ideals and was a venue for musical and theatrical performances. During that time period, organizations such as Casino de l'Aliança were very popular as they promoted Catalan identity, which was being strongly suppressed by both the French and Spanish governments.

Casino de l'Aliança first opened in 1878 on Carrer de Wad-Ras, 20, before moving to its current location at Rambla Del Poblenou, 44, in 1884. In 1880, Remisa added the Apollo Choir and the Choir Federation of Clave. In 1885, an annual poetry competition (Jocs Florals) was instituted. In 1894, a cinema was installed. The Casino de l'Aliança was in danger of being permanently shut down in 1916 under the dictatorship of Miguel Primo de Rivera but was saved from burning by the Committee of the Defense of the Republic and re-opened in 1928.

Events at Casino de l'Aliança have been held since 1878 in the theater section, which boasts a flat, horseshoe-shaped floor with a gallery of boxes for seating around the arena. Past concerts at Casino de l'Aliança have included operettas, classical concerts, jazz concerts, and choirs. Famous performers at Casino de l'Aliança include Maria Espinalt, Marcos Redondo, Paco Martinez Soria, Joan Capri, and many others. Currently, the most popular performer at Casino de l'Aliança is the Catalan jazz group La Locomotora Negra.
