With a prime beachfront location, a maze-like space, a smattering of big-name DJs, and a liquor license that allows the club to serve and stay open until 6am, it’s no wonder Opium Mar is one of the most talked-about venues in Barcelona.

The elegant cream interior was cleverly designed to feature a host of split levels and raised platforms, as well as half a dozen bars and several cordoned-off VIP areas, that together create an exciting nightlife playground.

A large dance floor in the center is flanked on one side by a long bar and a well-placed VIP area where patrons can sink into beige sofas and treat themselves to a prime view of the action.

Regardless of the plush décor awaiting them inside, many patrons take advantage of the warmer nights to start their evening out on Opium’s beach terrace, where a mix of formal seating for dining and creamy couches for lounging offer a chance to admire the sea and flirt with the other good-looking guests.

Around 1am, however, a steady stream of young women in tight dresses and high heels begins to arrive, closely followed by hordes of continental playboys with slicked-back hair and roguish smiles.

A few expensive cocktails later, and both groups make their way to the dance floor to show off their moves and watch the beautiful go-go dancers on stage.

The party really gets swinging after 3am, when the nearby lounges and clubs close and swarms of clubbers arrive for more late-night action.

Slightly pretentious but still able to deliver an energetic good time, Opium Mar is definitely on the must-see list for anyone who enjoys a club scene with a more upscale flair.

Tip from Adriana:

Because neighboring clubs like Shoko and Carpe Diem Lounge Club (CDLC) close at 3am, and Opium has a late license until 6am, there can be a real rush to get to Opium just before 3am. Arrive well before that to avoid long lines.

Probably the most happening nightlife hotspots in Barcelona. Yes in Barcelona, one of the party capitals of Europe! That should say enough.

Opium is a great place if you want to let your be immersed in great music by awesome DJs, have some really good cocktails and relax on the beach when you are tired of dancing! The location of this club is amazing as it is situated right on the beach front. If you don't have a ticket, then getting inside the club is an experience in itself. Some of the hottest girls I have ever seen in my life were not allowed inside. The overall atmosphere outside the club is great. And this awesomeness intensifies if you get entry into the club - the feeling does it for you. Apart from this, the music and the DJs are purely amazing. With hundreds of people dancing on the electro tunes, the DJ makes sure that everyone enjoys to the maximum! Go there if you really want to party in Barcelona!
An experience

Opium Mar, what a place. With it's prime location on the beautiful beach of Barcelona and great space, it is a must to complete a perfect summer. The club is packed with tanned bodies, with a drink or two in hand, dancing to the DJ's spins of hits. On one of my many nights there I even got to party with Alice in Wonderland's mad hatter, or at least that's what he was dressed up as!
Classy and Fun Barcelona

Located right on the beach, Opium provides what people come for to Barcelona. The lights, gogo dancers, electronic music, latin men and a spacious dance floor is perfect for those who want to dance the night away. The party doesn't start till 2.00 am and goes on till 5.00 am but for an early bird, there is always the option of sitting on the Patio facing the water while talking to a foreign stranger. The modern architecture adds the elegance to the fun side of this club. It's perfect for everyone, for those who want to lounge, for those who want to get a drink at a bar, for those who want to see their favorite DJ perform.
Opium Mar for a Glamtastic Night

Opium Mar has to be one of the most glamorous places I have been to. It's flashy, modern and beautifully decorated. Although the price to get in is not so cheap, it's worth it. Also, there are ways of avoiding paying at all at the door. If you are a smart tourist, (I assume locals already know this) then you will go online and look for partylists for this place and join them. On these lists just write down you name + the amount of people you want to bring inside with you. At the door you just say your name and you can enter without pay. This is a smart PR move from the club ;) The dancefloor is huge, the music will be commercial but on certain nights they play different styles of music. But the most beautiful thing about this place will have to be its view over the sea and direct access to the beach from it's terrace. The terrace is equipped with modern and comfortable chairs and it has a loungearea where you can lay down and chill with your friends before you head out to party. This place is def worth a visit when you are in Barcelona, since it represents the city's elegance and glam. Just be sure to be over 21 years old and dress fancy to get through the doormen.

Studying abroad in the UK, my friends and I knew we had to make a trip to Barcelona. It was a really nice change of pace. Spanish food was amazing. The beach and sun were something that our summer in England could not give us. We got off the plane, took a nap, and headed to opium mar around 2am. This was actually a really good time to head over there because spaniards party until the sun comes up. The club itself looks really nice. As my friend put it, it looks like a club you would see on tv. We met multiple Americans when we were there, so it definitely is the go to place if you're visiting Barcelona. I heard Kobe Bryant was there a couple of weeks after us. You can walk out onto the beach and there are so many other places along the same street that you can go to. But you probably won't want to leave opium. Barcelona was my favorite city in Europe!
One Memorable Night in Barcelona

Located at the glamourous, chic end of the city's beach, Opium Mar provides a clubbing experience quite like no other. The most impressive aspect of this unique club is without a doubt the stunning coastal view from the glamourous dance floor, which is the perfect example of something which has to be experienced to be believed. However, the music cannot be overlooked either with a soundtrack fluctuating between chilled trance to energetic house accompanying your dancing until the morning sunrise. Furthermore, if timed well, one has the opportunity to catch prestigious acts such as Axwell of Swedish House Mafia for as little as 15 euros. Despite this, whilst musical tickets may be reasonably priced, beverages are not. Expect to pay upwards of 6 euros for a coke, which rapidly reaches the 15 euro mark when alcohol is added into the equation. Added to this is the pricey entry fee of 20 euros, although this can be avoided with the forward planning of soliciting an opportune meeting with one of the many gaggles of promoters in the day. Nevertheless, Opium remains one of the best nights out in Europe, untarnished by the prospect of expensive drinks and entry, with its glamorous clientele, incredible music and outstanding setting, it's certainly an experience not to be missed.
Dancing on the Beach
Stephanie C. May 13, 2013
This club is one of the best in Barcelona. However, be warned, it is primarily filled with American study-abroad students, specifically during the school year (Sept - May), so if you want an "authentic, local" experience in Barcelona, it is not the place to go too. However, if you're looking to put on your best clubbing outfit and have your dancing feet on, it's the place to be! When the club becomes too hot, and you need a breath of fresh air, you can step out, get your hand stamped, and walk barefoot on the beach under the Barcelona stars to cool down. Then, after a few minutes, you can step right back into the club and continue with the excitement. Drinks are expensive though, so don't enter the club without any cash.
Always a fun time!

Opium Mar is definitely the club to go to in Barcelona! It’s filled with fun people, exciting DJs, and is located with a patio right on the beach! What more could you want? Every night you’re sure to bump into some study abroad students or mingle with some Europeans ready to party. But, if possible, Friday is definitely the night to go! The place is packed with young people dressed to impress, and you can be sure to see a world famous DJ energizing the full dance floor. Opium Mar is perfect because whenever you need a quick break from the dance floor, you can relax and lounge outside on the patio or even walk barefoot on the beach with your friends and return back to the party after! There are usually promoters outside the club promoting all of the beachside clubs, so be sure to get added to their guest list beforehand so you can get in to this incredible Barcelona club for free!
You'll never want to leave!

The second you walk through the doors at Opium Mar you feel like a star. It is by far the classiest and most beautiful club in Barcelona. The club itself is right on the beach and opens up completely on one side to an ocean view. The dance floor is big and never gets too crowded; you'll have plenty of room to dance with your friends. The club always has amazing DJ's and the dancers up on platforms add to the fun. If you want to take a break from dancing there is a huge outdoor patio area complete with tables, bonfires and outside bars. In Opium Mar you can either go dance your heart out to the awesome music, or head to the patio and make some new friends while looking out at the ocean. The drinks are a little expensive but the price is right for the overall experience you'll have. Be prepared to be there all night. The coolest club in Barcelona!
Prepare yourself for the best club night of your life

By far the best club in Barcelona! We went in the spring (late April) and the club was packed! Drinks are fairly expensive but the price is definitely worth the ocean view. If you're feeling a little hot after dancing you can always walk right out the back door for a quick dip in the ocean! The night we went they gave out free prizes (cuervo beanies, key chaines, and iphone cases) and instant polaroid pictures with each tequila shot you purchased! WIll be the first club I hit up the next time I'm in Barcelona and it's the first club I recommend to people visiting Barca.
The Clubbing Experience of a Lifetime!
Mariah M. Jan 17, 2013
With an outside patio, an incredible ocean view, and a lively dance floor with impeccably dressed people, Opium Mar lived up to it’s reputation as one of the best clubs in Barcelona. My favorite part about the club was the outdoor seating area with modern lounge couches and mood lighting, in which one can enjoy the fresh outside air and the beachfront view. Inside the club, there was a huge dance floor and beats from mostly the top 100, as well as electronic music. There were nearby seating and tables for those who needed a moment of rest. Adjacent to the dance floor was a large, busy bar area. Drinks were costly, so I recommend planning ahead. As for the crowd, I admittedly took a moment to look around and admire all of the beautiful people. No exaggeration- it was a good-looking crowd. The average person was in his or her mid-20’s, and it was interesting to talk to upbeat people from all parts of the world. Cover Price: We randomly ran into a representative for Opium Mar about 500 feet away from the club, and he gave our group of twenty free passes for entrance before midnight. If you are on a budget, I recommend getting to Opium before midnight (lower cover price/ possibly free), as long as you are aware that the party won’t start until at least 1 am. After midnight, there was a cover price of 20 euros. Dress to impress: Ladies, leave your sandals at home. Gentlemen, upgrade from a T-shirt. The bouncers strictly enforced the dress code! Overall, Opium Mar is a must-see for anyone spending time in Barcelona! It provides a clubbing experience of a lifetime.
A Must- Go In Barcelona!
Lily R. Jan 15, 2013
Opium Mar. Set right on the beach with an outside section, Opium Mar is visually stunning and the perfect place to stay up all night in Barcelona. The crowd is generally early-late 20’s, all dressed impeccably. It’s not a huge place, and there’s not much place to sit (besides outside and in the VIP section), but the music is so energizing you won’t want to. The DJ plays a mix of electro and pop. The last time I went to Opium Mar, at 3am a man played the saxophone solo of a very popular song live for the whole club; it was an incredible moment. When he stood on the stage, everybody went silent and was taken by his stunning solo. Everyone had chills when the song slowly became louder in the background, and he played with the music. It’s happenings like this which make Opium Mar so special. The crowd at Opium Mar is also very cool. When we were there, we met some Chelsea soccer players who invited us to their VIP section, which was exciting. There’s lots of interesting people and VIP’s to meet here! It's a very youthful and glamourous atmosphere, and definitely one of the places to be in Barcelona.
Must Do!!

I think Opium was the best club we went to in Barcelona, and one of the best in all of Europe! You definitely have to go here!! The atmosphere is really relaxed but stylish at the same time. You should dress up a bit more for this club than at some of the other clubs in Barcelona or in other cities. The music was really good and I heard that some of the DJs they host are incredible. My favorite part about Opium was the outside patio on the beach. It was such a cool feeling to be able to see the ocean and the sand while listening to the music. I think Opium sort of sums up what Barcelona is all about - it's a young, stylish city that loves to party till the early morning, and best of all it is located on the beautiful sea!

Opium is party central in Barcelona being one of the most popular clubs. It hosts many of the top DJs that are touring around Europe. It is helpful to find a promoter before (ahem Michael Jordan) so that you don't have to pay the full ridiculous cover charge. The discounted entry fee usually comes with a drink and a change to cut the line so it’s the smart way to go. The patio is an amazing place to go and sit when you’re tired of dancing and you can meet anyone. Last time I was here, I met my friend’s best friend from home. It brings people together!

Opium is a great club! I went two out of my four nights in Barcelona and had an amazing time both nights! Its right on the beach at Port Olympic which is fantastic and it is MASSIVE and so fun! The cover charge is usually pretty pricey, around 20 euros, but if you're on vacation I say its worth it! Go and dance the night away ! Opium does attract mainly tourists, as opposed to locals, but it has a nice diverse group of beautiful people! Its a little bit dressy but just like nice clubbing attire. They tend to have big DJs there like Armin Van Buuren!
best night EVER
Anna V. Nov 20, 2012
I literally had the best night ever at Opium. It is SO much fun. They have great music and everybody was dancing! You will stay there the whole night. The venue itself is gorgeous and right by the beach so you can escape to the patio for a little while. Guys remember to wear pants and no flip flops or they will turn you away. There's a great mix of people there and an amazing atmosphere. I literally can't say enough good things about this club. The drinks are really, really expensive though so be prepared to spend some money or just pre-game beforehand or both! Everyone at this club was so beautiful and you absolutely have to go here, it is a must for anyone in Barcelona.
The place to check out if you're in Barcelona!
Maddy L. Nov 15, 2012
This is by far one of the best clubs in Barcelona, and one of the coolest clubs I've ever been too. The patio is an amazing place to lounge to take a break from the dance floor, and you can even venture out onto the beach and get back into the club no problem. It's easy to get a drink, the people are beautiful, and the music is amazing. There's a great mix of tourists and locals, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. If you have the chance, you HAVE to visit this club when you go to Barcelona!
Jade W. Nov 13, 2012
Opium is seriously the best club ever. You will definite be there until 6am. They have such amazing music and dancers with exotic dancers. The bars are huge and you will have no problem getting a drink. The venue is beautiful and right on the beach- it's big but not too big and so beautiful. There is an indoor and outdoor section and the VIP section is huge and looks over the whole place. It is very touristy, but very fun and classy. Everyone is beautifully dressed and it's a really good time. This is the best club I have been to in Europe and your guaranteed to have a great time. Opium is amazing and you have to go when you're in Barcelona!!!
Best Nightlife in Barcelona
Adam F. Oct 31, 2012
Barcelona is comparable to the Miami of Europe; enticing many international party-seekers with it's nightlife and gorgeous people. Opium Mar sits in the middle of the famous strip of clubs literally located on the beach. With an ambiance similar to Pacha, this restaurant turns into the hottest night club in Europe. The top notch promoters consistently bring world renown DJs and performers to help you party away the night and early morning. The architecture of the club fits every personality, mood, and energy level. With a main stage for the DJ, the VIP section surrounds the talent and looks out of the rest of the population. Although there is a dance floor, one can find dancers just about anywhere; even on the beach. If you are in a more relaxed mood there is a beautiful patio for socializing, smoking, and relaxing while listening to the music and the party inside. From the patio you can see a hundred yards to the beautiful Mediterranean, however I suggest walking out towards the water and turning around to face the beautiful and busy skyline of the strip.
You will love it!
Sunset E. Oct 6, 2012
This club is crazy!!!! One of the best in Barcelona!!!! You will have an amazing time if not no need to worry Razmatazz is steps away and is a fantastic club!!!!! If dissatisfied with all you got to check out the clubs/bars/ hookah lounges along the waterfront!!! You will have such an amazing time between all three of these places! Opium would be a great choice to go to! If you cant get in or the line is too long go to Ramarazz! You won't be disappointed!!! The beach bars/clubs are a huge row along the water front and there must be at least 10/15 bars with club music!!! Sooo much fun!!!
One of Barcelona's best...
Trevor B. Aug 20, 2012
Offering some of Barcelona's best nightlife, it's helpful to get in touch with one of Barcelona's many promoters beforehand so you can be added to the guest list to avoid the 15 euro cover at the door. The guest list isn't valid all night though so it's necessary to arrive there before 2 am. Dress code is normally fairly relaxed with guys commonly wearing t-shirts/v-necks but beware there are random nights where they deny you at the door for casual dress so be aware that it does occur once in a while. During the summer months, Wednesdays are the big night here with DJs often stopping here on their summer European tours and midweek trips north from Ibiza.
