Jan 16, 2013 —  Yes, getting off the beaten track and escaping the mad flood of tourists is always a good idea, but that doesn’t mean you should completely avoid experiencing the amazing landmarks spread throughout the United States.

After all, landmarks are landmarks for a reason. They represent something profound; be it culturally, architecturally, historically, or just weirdly.

The Hollywood sign above Hollywood, for example, is a beacon of celebrity glamour, the sky deck on Willis Tower in Chicago lets you gaze across the city from the clouds (literally), and the stunning Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is the most photographed man-made structure in the world for good reason.

And then there’s that little statue in the bay outside New York, or that subtle house in Washington, DC where the most powerful man in the world eats breakfast. Maybe you’ve heard of them?

Sure, you can decry the kitsch of Hollywood Boulevard or SF’s Fisherman’s Wharf, but we suggest you still make it a point to visit all of the landmarks in the U.S., and Party Earth has a great list to get you started.

What are some of your favorite landmarks in America?

Look for the manhole on the National Mall that has a replica of the Washington monument inside of it. Chances are you won't be able to lift it though.
