National Museum Weekend Amsterdam is an annual cultural celebration held in museums across the city for a weekend in April. Over 400 museums across The Netherlands participate in the festivities, with over 20 of those located in Amsterdam.
Started in 1980, National Museum Weekend Amsterdam incentivizes citizens and visitors alike to take in Dutch culture. Participating museums offer free or drastically discounted admission throughout the weekend for anyone and everyone who wants to come inside. Also, to further entice patrons, many museums put on events and offer special activities during the weekend in honor of the national celebration. Notable participating museums include the Rijksmuseum, Madame Tussauds, and the Vincent Van Gogh Museum.
While most admission fees to museums are free during National Museum Weekend Amsterdam, some may have fees of around €5 or so.
