Only if you're in Haarlem

Patronaat true story: We sent a certain someone out on first assignment to cover De La Soul's gig here last year. This reporter worked nearby, loved the group, was down to go. We meet up with our reporter before the gig at Jopenkerk, a nearby church brewery that serves up some real incredible beers. Our reporter orders a burger, but asks to have cheese. The server refuses cheese, saying it's "not possible". This really upsets our reporter. He drinks himself into a stupor. Too many double IPAs. This sends him off on a rant of how things aren't like they used to be. De La included. By the time we get to Patro he can barely walk. So we took him off the assignment, but kept him on our team as a solid, passionate and true journo. The End. Bottom line? Nothing special about Patronaat. But Haarlem is the heart of progressive Dutch music.
Good line up of bands, good venue

My friend and his jazz ensemble played an interesting gig here that was a mix of live music and cinema. Patronaat has two areas to it, a main venue hall and a smaller stage inside its cafe. I'm strictly speaking for the cafe, but we had a blast. No one really showed up, but our drink tickets were plentiful and I loved watching my friend do what he does best. The place was super accommodating to what he needed, which was a lot of wires and tech stuff. And everyone was really nice. A night out in Haarlem is generally a good time, and I think Patronaat is a good reason why you should check it out.
