Five Hidden Gems in Washington, DC

Comments  (4)

Jun 30, 2012 —  You could spend a lifetime doing all the obvious things in The District. After all, with hundreds of monuments, museums, theaters, expansive urban parks, and festivals that seem to be popping every weekend, few could argue DC should stand for “Dull City.”

“Dreadful Climate?” Okay, sometimes.

“Dizzying Congestion?” Certainly during rush hour.

“Dating a Congressman?” Only if he’s already married.

But not dull!

Of course, even the most profound lover of kitsch needs to escape the touristy spots once and awhile, and even people who thrive on big crowds can do with a quiet escape now and again – to say nothing of those of you who think Adams Morgan on a packed Friday is a not-so-subtle slice of hell.

These lesser-known DC haunts in town don’t all promise tranquility, nor will we offer any guarantees that you’ll agree with our assessment (either of the cool factor or the notion that they’re hidden), but we’d like to think of you as the kind of person who will give them a try anyway.

And if you don’t…we really “Don’t Care.”

If you want some amazing vodka check out the bar at Russia House in Dupont. There's nothing special or flashy about the building...easy to miss if you don't know it's there.

Fascinating info about the national mall

I had no idea that The National Mall had so much cool stuff going on. It does make you wonder what else is really right under your nose in DC...

Maybe not entirely hidden - but if you haven't been to the Spy Museum in DC you're missing out. I think they had a confiscated TV made out of cocaine if memory serves.
