Located in Fairfax, Virginia, the Patriot Center is the home arena of George Mason University just outside of Washington, DC. Construction was finished in 1985, and the complex is capable of holding nearly 10,000 fans for the popular men’s basketball games at the Patriot Center. Other sporting events like occasional NBA exhibition games and UFC Fight Night’s are also put on here.

The venue’s capacity can be increased even further for the concerts at the Patriot Center, which has featured bands like Phish, Bruce Springsteen, and Pearl Jam. The arena underwent over ten million dollars in renovations in the last few years to continue the success it has enjoyed in the past.

The Patriot Center is an amazing venue in Fairfax, Virginia, that is used both for the GMU men's basketball team and for some fantastic concerts. On the outside, it doesn't seem like a huge venue--distinctly blocky brick and concrete, it's actually not very pretty to look at--but when you actually get inside, it's kind of mind-boggling how big it is. Last year I went to a concert there that had the place filled almost to capacity, but the people at the food booths were working really well under pressure--where they were open. Many of them actually weren't, for whatever reason, and that meant really long lines at the water fountains. My seat on the floor, though, was perfect; pretty much anywhere on the floor, you could see the band comfortably without having to elbow people out of the way. The fact that the Patriot Center is in Fairfax and on a college campus makes parking a less heinous task than it would be in DC. Additionally, quite a lot of really great bands end up at the Patriot Center instead of the Verizon Center or other venues actually in metropolitan DC. It is easier for a lot of fans from the surrounding areas to get there than into the city, being right off Route 66. It's a very convenient venue and a popular one to perform in, so if you get the chance, definitely try it out!

Victoria Litman Feb 13, 2013 4.0 stars Incredible Venue! The Patriot Center is technically a building of the George Mason University campus but it's role in the community is much more important. Serving as both a venue for large scale concerts such as Ke$ha and Avril Lavigne as well as a place for important community events such as high school graduation, the Patriot Center is less of a building and more of a home to local teenagers. Beyond this comfortable feeling, the Patriot Center offers quality views from every seat as well as good food options. The lesser known DC suburb of Fairfax is put on the map by this incredible venue that everyone should try and go to at some point!

Jody Pollara Nov 30, 2012 3.0 stars Went here for a concert I went to this venue once in college to see Incubus and had a great time. The venue itself is covered which is great because shows won't get cancelled due to rain or other bad weather. It holds tons of people and has floor space as well as seating so concertgoers can have the kind of concert experience that they like. I enjoy being in the action, so it was great for me to have floor "seats". There weren't any seats at my show and I was able to push my way to the front so the band was only a few feet in front of me. Because this venue is at George Mason University, parking is really easy. It is definitely a great place to catch a show.
