The DC Armory still fits its original purpose as a functioning armory, but now also hosts concerts, sports games, and other events. Built in 1941 as a training facility for the DC National Guard, the domed building can hold up to 10,000 people, depending on seating configuration. The varied events at the DC Armory have included everything from roller derby to Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration.
Permanent residents at the DC Armory are the National Guard and the DC Rollergirls roller derby team. Other events at the DC Armory include circuses, trade shows, formal events, and the occasional concert. Fixed seating is located on the main level and balcony. The DC Rollergirls hold bouts about once a month.
Parking is available, and the Stadium-Armory Station Metro stop is nearby. Concessions, including alcohol, are available at many events. Because of the building’s military association, extended security checks may take place for admission, so factor in extra time before attending events here.
