The Washington Wizards are a National Basketball Association (NBA) team that plays games at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. Construction of the stadium was completed in 2007 and Wizards games can pack in 20,282 screaming fans. The Wiz were originally formed in Chicago in 1961 but quickly moved to Baltimore in 1963 where they changed their name to the Washington Bullets. The team stayed in Baltimore until 1973 when they moved to Landover, Maryland and played games there until 1997. In ’97 the owner of the team decided to change the name to the Wizards and started anew with the construction of the Verizon Center in DC proper. The Wizards play in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference and have chalked up multiple division titles, conference titles, and an NBA Championship. Notable Wizards include Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes, Walt Bellamy, Gilbert Arenas, Manute Bol, Gus Johnson, Chris Webber, and John Wall. Wizards’ tickets can be tough to come by, but it’s entirely dependent on the team’s success on the court.
