The Georgetown Hoyas are a Division I NCAA basketball team that plays games at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. The stadium opened for business in 1997 and has a seating capacity of 20,282 for Hoyas games. The Hoyas currently play in the Big East Conference and are a perennial powerhouse among Division I teams. The Hoyas have a storied past – since they started shooting hoops back in 1907 – with multiple Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four, and Title Game appearances in addition to winning the NCAA Championship. Notable Hoyas include NBA greats like Patrick Ewing, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, Allen Iverson, Jeff Green, and Roy Hibbert. Hoyas’ tickets can be hard to get, especially when the team is having a winning season – though playing games in the massive Verizon Center usually guarantees a chance to secure a seat.
