The Washington Capitals are a National League Hockey (NHL) team that plays games at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. The stadium’s construction was completed in 1997 and has a seating capacity of 18,506. The Caps officially joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1974 and Caps games have been entertaining the nation’s capital ever since. The Caps have a hit and miss history as they compete in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. Though the team has won multiple division titles, their success as a franchise has been up and down. Some notable Caps players throughout the years include Nicklas Backstrom, Rod Langway, Mike Gartner, Peter Bondra, and Alexander Ovechkin. Regardless of the team’s success, Capitals' tickets are always hard to come by as the team sells out nearly every game.
