Claiming the title of second-biggest 10-mile race in America, the Army Ten-Miler is an annual race held in October in Washington D.C. and sponsored by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington. The course begins and ends at the Pentagon while passing such landmarks as the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the U.S. Capital building among others.
Drawing over 30,000 registrations and over 20,000 race-finishers in past years, the Army Ten-Miler is a major running event with some of the best runners from around the world participating year in and year out. Past Army Ten-Miler winners include Alene Reta, Aziza Abate, and Samia Akbar.
Army Ten-Miler registration is open to both teams and individuals, with entry fees around $55. General Registration begins around mid-May with the 30,000 available spots often selling out in less than a week.
There is a pre-race Geico Pasta Dinner in the Arlington Ballroom in the Crystal Gateway Marriot. The all-you-can-eat buffet dinner is open to everyone with tickets selling for around $30.
The best spectator location is the north lot of the Pentagon with views of the start and finish, while the Kennedy Center, Independence Avenue, and the 14th Street Bridge are also population spots for spectators.
