For being a small political town, the nation’s capital packs a large punch when it comes to Washington, DC sports.
First there are the Washington Redskins football, Washington Wizards basketball, and Washington Capitals hockey teams that have been city staples for years. Recently, Washington, DC added Major League Baseball to the roster with the addition the Washington Nationals in 2005 and joined the handful of cities with all four major American sports.
Then there’s D.C. United, a perennial MLS soccer powerhouse, and add to that all the universities and colleges fielding teams for every sport.
Sports in Washington, DC is a daily ritual whether it’s checking out one of the major sports or running in the Marine Corp Marathon, watching a tennis match at the Legg Mason Classic, or catching a PGA Tour event at Congressional golf course.
