Party Earth Review: A plane-free way to take a culinary trip, Cities Restaurant & Lounge brings in flavors from exotic locales and serves them up in a classy restaurant the size of small village. The menu’s themes – highlighting four different cities – change every four months, so sophisticated foodies can revel in a menu that might include Cuban chicken, Greek salads, Peking duck, and good ol’ District mac and cheese. Business types and policy wonks stop in for a prix fixe lunch with clients during the day, as shop-ready ladies and cosmopolitan young professionals gather around rows of steel tables or settle in at the massive U-shaped bar to catch up over a Happy Hour that runs from noon till 8pm. A relaxed spot to enjoy a romantic dinner during the week – especially with the alluring videos of the featured destinations streaming from flat-screens on every wall – the venue picks up on Fridays as DC’s finest show up to sip pricey cocktails and make eyes at the wealth of eye candy. Yet even when 10:30pm rolls around and a DJ starts spinning Top 40 and house, most people mix and mingle rather than dance, preferring to lounge on the long rows of ostrich-hide couches and earth-toned banquettes and wonder where that sexy someone’s accent is from. DJ spins Top 40 and a mix of house on most Fridays and Saturdays from around 10:30pm. Live jazz on Wednesdays. Flat-screens encircling the room showcase images of the menu’s featured cities.
