Georgetown, Washington, DC –
Set in an area more often lauded for its refined, high-end establishments, Chadwicks is a casual joint that has been serving up basic burgers and beer since the 1960s.
Students and unpretentious area residents flock to this rustic bi-level venue for daily Happy Hour specials and rowdy weekend shenanigans, wolfing down two-dollar bottles of Bud and endless plates of fifty-cent wings in the shadow of nearby Whitehurst freeway.
Aerosmith tunes and other rock and roll classics blast out from an internet jukebox near the main bar, as the jeans-and-t-shirt contingent takes over rows of simple wooden tables to catch the game on a couple of nearby TVs.
A second upstairs bar and dining area, dotted with thick square pillars and generous skylights, gets packed to the brim during weekend champagne brunch, when a smart-casual crowd donning anything from Georgetown University sweaters and flip-flops to button-downs and slacks slurps down bottomless flutes of champagne with their steak and eggs.
With a long-standing reputation for hearty American fare and cheap drinks, Chadwicks is a classic “come-as-you-are” bar in the heart of Georgetown.
Mix of preppy and casual GU students, relaxed Georgetown residents, and anyone looking for a cold beer and a hot burger, early 20s to 30s+.
Seven TVs tuned to sports. Jukebox. Free Wi-Fi.
Full menu of American fare including burgers, dinner salads, crab cakes, and bar food. Happy Hour daily 4–7pm.
Brunch menu $9–$14, champagne brunch $22–$26, appetizers $5–$20, sandwiches $9–$14, salads $9–$15, entrées $10–$23, desserts $4–$6.
Beer $5.50–$7.70, wine $5–$8/glass or $24–$32/bottle, cocktails $5.50–$11.
Casual to upscale casual: t-shirts, shorts, sneakers, flip-flops, sun dresses, white button-downs, designer jeans, polo shirts, khakis.
Tuesday night for a young college crowd taking advantage of the all-night Happy Hour, Friday and Saturday nights for a boisterous mix of young and old locals, and weekends for the unlimited champagne brunch.
Clydes of Georgetown (3236 M Street NW) also has a saloon-style vibe and draws a similar crowd.
