The 8X10 (Baltimore, MD) Information

The 8X10 is a live music venue located at E. 10 Cross Street in Baltimore, Maryland. This intimate venue has a very interesting history. The venue was originally a country western bar called the Dew Drop Inn and did not offer live music. In the late 1970s, the site became Joe's Organic Juice Bar for several years before it was purchased and converted into the Eight By Ten and became a music venue for the first time. In 2002, the venue was and renamed The Funk Box and renovated to its current layout, which boasts a stage surrounded by standing room and a second floor balcony for additional viewing space. The space was re-sold again in 2005 and renamed The 8X10 to preserve and reinvent its past title.

Concerts at The 8X10 include both local performers such as Jimmie's Chicken Shack, Lake Trout, and The All-Mighty Senators, in addition to big name bands. Performances at The 8X10 have often been given by bands that were little-known at the time, but have since become nationally and internationally renowned, such as Dave Matthews Band, Nirvana, and Godsmack. Local bands at The 8X10 find a great stage to showcase their work and become more well-known. One of the more popular events at The 8X10 is the weekly Open Mic Night, which allows would-be artists to compete with other local performers for a live audience.

No frills, no fuss, no problem! Just great music and drinks!

This is the place to go for live music by local musicians in Baltimore City without having to pay super high cover charges. Also, frequent patrons will often get to see bands/artists before they 'make it' as this spot boasts one of the biggest selection of 'before they were stars' performances. Despite the name, this place is really roomy inside unlike a lot of bars in Federal Hill and has ample seating on the first floor for a rest in your bar hopping travels. Their drinks are priced to move and the live music will keep you entertained until closing time. You can even stand on the 2nd floor landing and watch the band up close like a true fan as long as you're okay with standing the whole time. Decent bar food, but the real draw to this place is the awesome live music instead of the typical jukebox selection of trendy hits you'll get in every other bar on Cross street. As with most Federal Hill Bars, parking can be tricky, especially in the cross street area of Federal Hill, so cab it if you can and you'll be grateful you did. A come-as-you-are bar, dress is super casual - just make sure you have clothes on and you're good!
Awesome venue

This venue is surprisingly large inside. From Cross Street in Federal Hill, it just looks tiny, but as you enter, it opens into a pretty large, sprawling venue. It almost looks like a warehouse inside. This is one of my favorite places to go in Fed Hill. There are rarely any big name bands here, but its great to see local bands and small groups with cult followings. I love going to the Monday night open mic nights - there is always someone really, really good and someone really, really bad. The second floor has a bar in the back and surrounds the stage (standing room only) so it almost feels like you are standing on scaffolding while watching the band. I really love checking out new bands at this venue.
