Looking for events in Washington, DC is like looking for water in the ocean. Come on, people, it’s the nation’s capital! Major DC events and festivals pop up in parks almost every weekend in this town, to celebrate the country, decry its failures, or just fill the air with the sounds of great concerts.
Much of DC’s live music scene includes impressive DJs and live band lineups that highlight the city’s oft-overlooked musical history: Cultured jazz joints inspire flashbacks of U Street’s 1920s “Black Broadway,” while nearby mainstay dance halls that were once part of DC’s seminal punk movement are now packed with indie rock and house fans, salsa lovers, and DJs spinning music from all over the world.
World-renowned theaters like the Kennedy Center and Ford’s Theater have their schedules full of comedy, musicals, rock shows, symphonies, and lord knows what else all year long.
The Redskins are by far DC’s most loved sports team – bars are blanketed with burgundy and gold on NFL Sundays – and when the Capitals, Wizards, or Hoyas take over the Verizon Center, the streets around Penn Quarter explode with dedicated fans cramming into nearby watering holes. Rowdy parties are always in full swing in Adams Morgan, but for those who want something a little more fashionable nothing beats a shopping spree along M Street in Georgetown.
