Party Earth The Bottom Line Review

The Scene

The Bottom Line in Downtown Washington, DC is a divey bar with great specials, sports, & loud music on weekends. Get to the bottom in DC with Party Earth!

A classic below-ground bar, The Bottom Line draws guests in with regular specials, sports on the TVs, and a vibe that’s as unpretentious as the Miller is cold.

Past the roped-off and covered street-side patio, tired suits and not-yet-weary interns proceed down a short flight of stairs and into a single room, which is the venue in its entirety.

Lined on either side with a bar and simple stools and a long row of tables, the space has little by way of décor save for the requisite wooden Indian, a few stained glass lamps, and old mirrors pressed with beer logos.

The old adage “less is more” may never have been so resolutely followed, but what the venue lacks in bells and whistles, it makes up for with deals like half-priced burgers on Mondays, a free taco bar on Wednesdays, and different beer and rail specials every day after 4pm.

Most nights, George Washington University kids and bros who will always be bros, even if they’re wearing blazers now, step down to catch a game – Bengals, KU Jayhawks, and anything out of Purdue are house favorites, but soccer, MMA, and NASCAR are just as prevalent – or play a little arcade golf.

Things get loud on Fridays and Saturdays, when mainstream hits and rock dominate the playlist and everybody gets down to party like it’s 1999.

Part relaxed preppy haunt, part unapologetically dorky throwback, The Bottom Line is a great place to blow off steam.

Tip from Lucas:

Hard to beat Bottom’s Friday Happy Hour, a beat-the-clock program that begins with $1 Millers from 4 to 7pm, then $2 from 7 to 9pm, followed by $2.50 from 9pm to 1am, and then back to $1 from 1am to close. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is start and end in the $1 category.

  • Crowd

University students, especially from GWU, local suit and tie crowd, sports fans, budget drinkers, 20s to late 30s.

  • Entertainment / Music

DJs play to the crowd Thursdays from 6pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 9pm.

Jukebox heavy with mainstream hits and rock. A dozen or so flat-screens tuned to all manner of sports, with Bengals and KU Jayhawks football and all Purdue favored.

    Arcade-style golf game. Free Wi-Fi.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

Classic American bar food including wings, burgers, and chicken, as well as a few Mexican faves like tacos, quesadillas, and burritos.

Happy Hour daily 4–8pm with additional drink specials every night from 4pm–close.

  • Prices

    Appetizers $6–$8, soups/salads $4–$11, sandwiches $8–$11, entrées $7–$11. Beer $3.50–$10, wine $4.50–$6.50, mixed drinks $5.50–$8.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

Casual to traditional office attire: suits, blazers, ties, t-shirts, jerseys, board shorts, sundresses, tank tops.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

With specials throughout the week, almost any time is a good time to drop in for budget-friendly booze and grub. Friday nights, however, are best for the long Happy Hour, loud music, and big crowd reveling in the weekend, many of whom come straight down after work and end up sticking around till close.

  • Close By

BlackFinn Saloon (1620 I Street NW) is a more upscale sports bar with a good Happy Hour and more TVs.
