Established in 1930 as part of the Venice Biennale, the International Festival of Contemporary Music is an eight-day music event featuring a total of 64 concert, sound installation, audio-visual, and musical theater premieres, 31 of which are world premieres.
The music festival presents two awards each year: the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award and the Silver Lion Award for new musical groups.
Some of the earliest performers at the International Contemporary Music Festival in Venice include Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, Russian pianist Igor Stravinsky, and German composer Paul Hindemith. More recent performers include Quartetto Prometeo, Pierre Boulez, and Anthony Braxton.
The two venue spaces used for the International Contemporary Music Festival are the 250-seat Piccolo Arsenale Theater and the 400-seat Teatro alle Tese. Tickets to the International Contemporary Music Festival range from €5 to €100 euro.
