  • Despite casually listening to trance and house music since being in middle school, I somehow put off actually attending EDM club events and massives until the ripe old age of 22. After being fed up...
  • For your entertainment, here's an ongoing list of some of the most laughably bad, pretentious, childish, awkward, nonsensical, or just plain stupid artist names I've come across while loading event...
  • (aka "CNT NDRSTND VWLS") - The alphabet universe has fallen out of balance and some bands now have the burden of extra letters, while others seem to have misplaced theirs. Fascinating.

  • The Doppelgangaz
    Sep 30, 2013
"The Doppelgangaz are an incredibly refreshing group in modern hip-hop. Producing all tracks themselves, their style brings it back to the beats-and-samples production styles reminiscent of the genre's classic age, without feeling dated. Many jazz samples and chilled out atmospheres with REAL drums as the beat foundation, no synthetic garbage! As MCs, the duo sound similar to each other, but they fill their songs with clever wordplay, intelligent references, and have a consistent undertone of humor in their personas and attitudes, especially noticeable in their numerous videos. It's pretty much impossible to go wrong with any of their releases. Any hip-hop fans who miss the qualities that the golden age had... just that "sound" that has gone missing these days... you NEED to check out this group, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed." hide

  • Savages

    Post-Punk
    Savages
    Sep 27, 2013
"This band is really a throwback to a different era! I'm a big listener of post-punk, goth rock, and all those UK/US bands (leaning on the darker side) who had their heyday in the late 70s and early 80s, so I was quickly drawn to Savages and their music. The most obvious comparison here (due to the vocals) is Siouxsie & The Banshees, though Savages' music is significantly heavier. They take the styles of post-punk's glory days and replicate it for modern times, usually keeping things uptempo with pounding drums and fuzzy guitars. My personal favorite instrumental component of the band's music is the bass, which almost always drives the song's rhythm the most and has a real thick and dirty tone to it. Overall, these girls know how to make excellent and raw music, and I expect we'll hear much more from them in the future!" hide

  • Carl Cox

    Techno / House
    Carl Cox
    Sep 26, 2013
"An undisputed legend of electronic music, but unfortunately an artist who I feel doesn't get his recognition from the new generation of EDM fans who only look for particular styles from their DJs. Carl Cox represents a foundational era of electronic music, with more repetitive beats and more focus on dancefloor consistency than flashy buildups or DJ hype, but his style (tech house and techno) is one that I see all too often get written off as "boring" because it's different than what most people have come to expect from EDM. Carl Cox was ranked the #1 global DJ before the majority of the household name DJs were even in the business! It's good to see that he at least gets his respect due from festival/club organizers, who name an entire stage after him and give him residencies in Ibiza and the like, but I still wish more people would appreciate DJs like Carl for building the foundation of electronic music today that has been taken for granted." hide
