Clapham Common - Concert Venue | Park in London.
Jul 14, 2013 The Spot. "Before I even moved to London, Clapham Common was one of my favourite places to chill out in London. Clapham is that young, eccentric and vibrant place that London life is all about, and finding a lush green space within this city rush is somewhat sacred! Every summer time visit involved a group of friends, drinks, sports and hours spent lounging around enjoying the buzzing atmosphere of the common. It's in a great location, just by the high street full of bars, pubs, cafe's and restaurants, so evenings can easily lead to a night of good food and drinks with friends, or a romantic rendezvous with your significant other. The common also hosts festivals in summer, in particular gay pride and music festivals, has paths to walk or ride along, a bandstand in the center, and a small lido for kids; pretty much an all rounder! It's free, it's green, and it's a great place to socialise or just kick back and read a book in the summer heat. Whats not to love?" hide

  • Galeries Lafayette

    Paris
    Mall / Shopping Area
Galeries Lafayette - Mall | Shopping Area in Paris.
Jul 14, 2013 Elegant Beauty! "Having spent a fast paced weekend in Paris last summer, full of sight seeing, eating out, river cruises and general tourist behavior, I was more than ready for a bit of down time shopping! If Paris wasn't already my favourite European destination, it certainly got a shiny gold crown after my visit to Galeries Lafayette. To say this place is just a shopping mall is the biggest understatement - it is THE most beautiful building I have ever been to! Think of an upmarket Selfridges, x 10, steeped in history, class and of course, an A-Z of high priced designer goods. Expensive yes, but SO worth the day out to explore and whether you're shopping for perfume, men's wear, homewares or enjoying the true taste of Parisian food, the service you receive will be second to none. And let's face it, if you're going to spend £100 on an authentic bottle of Chanel perfume, what better place to do it than the home of Chanel? Galeries Lafayette, along Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th Arrondissement (district) of Paris, is the place of dreams. It is 10 floors high, with the long standing and most intricate dome shaped stain glassed ceiling that encompasses the entire atrium. From each level, balconies circle the central hall, and there is an overwhelming sense of grandeur and romance about the whole place as you look down to the cosmetics floor and see shoppers swarming, spritzing and pouting in mirrors. Art nouveau staircases, elaborate ironwork, marbled floors and impeccable visual merchandising are what make the flagship store Galeries Lafayette more than just your 'average' department store. I was told it is the second most visited attraction in Paris, and it is clear to see why. Separated into three buildings; women's, men's and homewares, and a food hall on the roof terrace, there is plenty to lust over. Tourists do flock in and out of the building, but there is a definite sense of order, unlike many department stores across the UK and US, and photographs are strictly forbidden once inside. But the nice thing is seeing French men and women amongst the hauders, and the genuine sense of Parisian lifestyle. But this is Paris, a different way of life and a different kind of people. Definitely place Galeries Lafayette at the top of your to-do-list! Sidenote: Don't miss the weekly fashion shows every Friday! x" hide
