  • Tiergarten

    Berlin
    Outdoor Activity / Park
Tiergarten - Outdoor Activity | Park in Berlin.
Feb 7, 2013 Germany's Central Park "You could walk around Tiergarten and marvel at nature's glory but you're in Berlin! Grab a bike and hit the trail. Rental places around Mitte are not too far away by bike, you get a great view of the city, ride through the center of The Brandenburg Gates (previously saved for the Royal family) like the King or Queen you are and you're at the park. You can still appreciate nature but you'll cover more ground. You can whizz past the Riechstag, Ride to the zoo, I'm too old for most zoos but Berlin did it right. There are tons of African large game, birds of prey, jungle cats and the likes. I saw creatures I either never heard about or thought I was seeing things. After that, you may be a little tired but head the couple of blocks on bike to Schleusenkrug. The sausage is everything you think it will be when you get off the plane in Berlin and the beer is fan-freaking-tastic, try the berliner weisse, less alcohol and delicious fruity syrups are added. Try and sit on the canal, you'll see tour boats pass through the canal lock, which was cool. If you're tired off the Cold War stuff, WWII noise, can't look at another cathedral or painting, or blew too much money at Ritter, stretch your legs and try something new." hide

  • Piazza Santa Croce

Piazza Santa Croce - Landmark | Nightlife Area | Outdoor Activity | Square in Florence.
Feb 7, 2013 You've seen one, you've seen them all "I'll be honest, I visited after a rough day in Florence. By the time, my buddy and I got to the Piazza it was 4 o'clock of a very long afternoon of walking miles in the hot Tuscan sun punctuated with stops at delicious restaurants, beautiful museums, stocked leather markets and the constant begging of gypsies. Needless to say, I was ready to hop a cab and pass out until dinner. I was dragged along though and ended up in the Piazza. Its quant, not exactly what you would think of when you hear "The Temple of Italian Glories." If I had seen it without reading a tour book, I wouldn't have thought that Galileo, Machiavelli and Michelangelo are buried here. The cloister are pretty but you're not gonna stretch out on a basilica's lawn. Go if you're a history buff and want to pay your respects, but I wouldn't cry myself to sleep if I missed it amongst the rest of Florence. " hide

  • The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower - Culture | Landmark in Paris.
Feb 7, 2013 A Classic "Obviously, you're going to see the Eiffel Tower if you're going to be in Paris! It's why you go to Paris, same reason you go to New York for the Statue of Liberty, Rome for the Coliseum, or Philly for the Cheese Steaks. The trip just doesn't count if you don't! However, if you are going, just keep some things in mind. A) Its the Eiffel Tower, you're going to have to wait. B) If you want to grab a flute of champagne up top or grab dinner on the mezzanine, get ready to shell out for it. I went at night and got in pretty quickly, my guess is that all the other Americans went off to dinner and left me with a phenomenal view of Paris lit up at night with not too much of a crowd. Don't get discouraged by any of this, just keep it in mind when you get there." hide
