Union Square - Culture | Landmark | Outdoor Activity | Park | Shopping Area | Square in New York.
Apr 6, 2013 A Green Place Entirely for Relaxation "Union Square is a place for everyone, especially those with downtime between classes, work or events in NYC. The park itself is a breeding ground for lively, free activities and draws in crowds of all stereotypes and age groups. Associated with a rich history that helped shape the vibe of the city and the creative use of chess tables along its perimeters, Union Square has become a place to enjoy a falafel from the local food cart on a sunny afternoon lunch break or watch alternative artists perform original compositions and the old classics. The dedication of the park as a base for local produce and organic environments bring together the important cause of buying locally rather than purchasing exported products. One of my favorite annual events that has been hosted at Union Square in the past in Pillow Fight Day, a worldwide day where people literally bash one another with pillows. When at Union Square, the police close the four blocks around the park and let the feathers fly. If you're looking for a more substantial meal than those offered by street vendors, there are many, many restaurants in the park area - a personal favorite being Max Brenner, a delicious place offering entrees, desserts, and drinks of any specimen of chocolate. Additionally, if you fell in love with the area during a quick lunch break, there is plenty of nightlife to enjoy, especially in the off - Broadway theaters and the intimate space of the Joyce Theater, which brings in international and local dance companies for very affordable performances. So spend a minute basking in the sun or exploring the hustle and bustle of this hipster area, or make an evening of it by attending one of the many performance venues and grabbing drinks." hide

Lincoln Center - Concert Venue | Performing Arts Center in New York.
Apr 6, 2013 Fresh Sophistication "Lincoln Center brings together the visual and performance arts in a fresh, ingenious way without losing the classical, sophisticated nature inherent in attending an event at any of the many fantastic spaces the area boasts. Whether you are a frequent ballet attendee or this is your first performance of any kind, the spectacular comfortability and ease of Lincoln Center make you feel right at home. The caliber of shows and groups that perform here regularly, and the excitement of out of town gala performances offer something for everyone and have the ability to lift you out of your seat and bring you right into the center of the action. The Lincoln Center has managed to remove the snobby stigma from the performing arts by showcasing contemporary and relatable performers, in addition to the beloved classics known worldwide for making NYC the cultural center for the arts. Filled with so much snazz, you may be questioning if your wallet can withstand the weight of such magnificent ventures. However, the varied types of performances at each of the venues almost always offer deals for discounted and rush tickets so you can still have a wonderful evening without skipping meals for a day to afford it. As a student, you can get student tickets for nearly every show and they also offer group tickets. Each of the performing companies who use Lincoln Center also have their own ticketing policies so depending on what you come to see, tickets can be as cheap as $10, which is a total steal for quality of excellence you will see. If attending performances isn't your usual scene, Lincoln Center can be appreciated for the sheer architectural design and ambiance, which mold together the feeling of a Renaissance palace and a modern design befitting of an updated NYC. There are delicious restaurants, bars and shops to enjoy will looking around Lincoln Center; in the ten block radius around the theaters you can be sure to enjoy almost any cuisine and shop until your heart is content! If your from out of town and not familiar with the subway system (although access to several lines is available directly underneath the theaters, with entrances from the inside), there are hotel options within walking distance from the theater! For however many times I have attended, and will continue to, shows of all sorts at Lincoln Center, something new catches my every time. It is almost as if it is its own museum-like world of arts, without the stuffiness and old musk smell. I highly recommend any performance done at the Lincoln Center, even if it is the silent performance found each and every day in the general splendor of the structure." hide
