Sep 13, 2012 Photo Booth and Pinball = A+ "Any bar that has a photo booth can automatically win me over but when you throw in a photo booth PLUS a pinball machine......dear God I never want to leave! I love to gamble, I love drinking, and I love pinball so pinball games for drinks is how I normally spend mine time at Rainbo. The scene is very hipster and divey but everyone is always welcome. It's never overly crowded and there is usually a spare booth open, I imagine mostly because it’s very uncomfortable to sit in skinny jeans. Beers are cheap, music is good, games and drunken photo booth pics are always fun, and if you haven't had your fill at last call there are a few 4-5am bars nearby." hide

Sep 13, 2012 Dark, loud, crowded, overpriced "This place is not my scene but I went for a friend’s birthday that came to visit from Chicago and had wanted to check out Hyde. It was shockingly small! You walk in the door and BAM you are on the dance floor, you literally have to force you're way through the drunk mess of bump and grinders to get a drink at the only bar they have in the back. Oh and you'll be paying out the ass for that drink too. We ordered a Ketel soda, Ketel tonic, and an Amaretto OJ for a total of $46. YIKES! Its super dark and the DJ booth is located right on the dance floor which makes it tight and super awkward. The tables line the walls of the bar but are also on top of the dance floor so I can't imagine that being comfortable. I checked out the bottle pricing list for shi*s and giggles and let me tell you I giggled! The prices were super outrageous! I don’t do the bottle service thing normally but I have done it in Vegas a few times and these prices were about double what I've ever paid. I had fun during my hour there drinking my 1 overpriced drink and shaking my ass into others on the dance floor but once was enough for me." hide

Sep 13, 2012 The place to play in DTLA "Maybe I am biased because I live within stumbling distance but it’s one of my favorite hang outs in downtown Los Angeles. The place itself is a bit hidden and kind of intimidating, there’s no sign or marking for the bar, it’s just a big dark brown door with a lion door knocker and a muscular bouncer. It's not your typical Hollywood bar it's dark and cozy and plays music by The Smiths, The Cure and other 80's alt rock bands. The drink menu consists of classic cocktails that seem to be trending throughout LA. Try their Sazerac, Hemingway, or Dark and Stormy, all very different but so good. They have a great happy hour with $5 cocktails and mini cheese plates, though about 60% of the time they are out of cheeses. Oh and then there’s Alex, the man with the mustache. Alex is a bartender who teaches a free hour long cocktail class on Wednesdays at 7pm. He goes over bar basics introducing the necessary tools, tips and tricks for mixing and shaking, and staples on what to stock your bar with. Every week is a new class theme and he somehow makes each class interesting, even when you've been to dozens like myself. My favorite part of the class is sampling the 2-3 cocktails he teaches. It’s a fun way to learn and sample new drinks and best of all it’s free! It also doesn't hurt that Alex is easy on the eyes and rocks the best mustache in town. Unfortunately I've noticed a lot of people in the class enjoy the free drinks and the effort Alex puts into the class but rarely tip. That’s just tacky and bad manners; the class is worth throwing Alex a $5 or $10. Visit The Association and make sure you have a way home; the drinks are tasty and strong!" hide
