  • Fisherman's Wharf

    San Francisco
Culture / Landmark / Outdoor Activity / Shopping Area
Fisherman's Wharf - Culture | Landmark | Outdoor Activity | Shopping Area in San Francisco.
Jan 7, 2013 Everyone Has to See It Once... "Fisherman's Wharf is just one of those places you have to go to when you visit SF. It is crowded and touristy, and everything you can buy there is hugely overpriced. However, if you do it right, it can be fun. Go ahead and wait in the line to get the overpriced chocolate ice cream at Ghiradelli. Walk down to the waterfront and stroll past all of the shops selling SF kitsch (and buy the I <3 SF mug for your in-laws if you must). Wade through the tourists on Pier 39. Look out from the pier and you can see Alcatraz in the distance. If you are lucky you can see the sea lions basking on their pontoons too. There are many small seafood restaurants and food stalls where you can grab some very fresh crab, clams, or what have you. Boudin Bakery has decent food, but it is always crowded, and you can find just as good food elsewhere on the Wharf." hide

  • Absinthe Brasserie & Bar

    San Francisco
    Bar / Brasserie
Absinthe Brasserie & Bar - Bar | Brasserie in San Francisco.
Jan 7, 2013 One of My Favorite Bars! "Absinthe Bar is one of my favorite places to visit in SF. Even though I have been several times I still have not had dinner there (although I hear it is excellent). I keep going back for the excellent drinks. These people can think up the best and most unique cocktails you will ever have. The bar has a nice atmosphere, dim lights, and the music is not too loud- really the perfect place to go if you actually want to talk to the people you are with." hide

  • Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

    Farmer's Market / Plaza / Shopping Area
Ferry Plaza Farmers Market - Farmer's Market | Plaza | Shopping Area in San Francisco.
Jan 7, 2013 Must VIsit Market "The Ferry Building is filled with fun shops, eateries, and groceries. I really like walking through and picking up random things - a baguette from the bakery, some cheese from the excellent cheese shop, fruit from the fresh grocer. If it is a nice enough day I take everything outside and eat on a bench. Since the building is right next to the water the view is great, although the breezes can be chilly. I love that each shop is local - you can talk to the people that actually make/grow your food! This is a great place to stop for breakfast/lunch, and a good introduction to the unique SF food culture." hide
