Lexington Social House - Bar | New American Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Dec 13, 2012 Is it a restaurant? Is it a club? Is it fab…or is it purgatory? "Your opinion on Lexington Social House will vary greatly depending on WHEN you go and WHO you are. You could say that about all venues, I suppose, but it’s adroitly relevant here because this swanky restaurant transitions to quite the hopping club scene on weekend nights. First, you should check the place out during Happy Hour for your initial visit, which runs from 5:30–8pm Tu–F and ALL DAY on Sundays. It makes for a great and surprisingly budget-friendly way to enjoy the digs. If you hate it, at least you probably won’t be out more than $20 for a drink and a little nosh. THE DIGS: Plush and intimate dining room with high-backed gray chairs and intimate tables great for couples, a lounge with a gorgeous marble bar, and a garden patio with a fireplace, another bar, trees, and banks of comfy sofas. There’s also the dedicated nightclub space, which is rather small (by club standards) but has a stellar sound system and attracts one helluva pretty Hollywood crowd. THE GRUB: I guess you’d call it modern American. Great steak tartare, scallops, ceviche, and ravioli, pizzas by Adam Tomei (Marisa’s bro, apparently an actor-turned-chef), and scrumptious desserts like monkey bread with banana ice cream, buttermilk panna cotta, and churros! THE DRINK: Hand-crafted classics, lots of folks drinking wine and champagne, and there are a few beers on the menu that aren’t wide in selection but include Xingu, my personal favorite Brazilian beer. THE VIBE: Very trendy and sceney, but not obnoxiously so during dinner hours. They even have live music sometimes (I saw Jeff Goldblum’s band play here once, think they still play most Wednesdays). Can make for a very romantic evening in the main dining room or a fun event with friends in the patio. Go with a reservation if you plan to eat. Where it fails for me is the club. I’ve only been once, but it was typically Hollywood douchetown with lots of “actors” talking about their “latest deals” and, sure, no shortage of gorgeous women who will probably sleep with you after seeing your photoshopped bank statement. Not my scene, however, so take that at face value. I recommend this place for a snazzy date more than anything. " hide

    American Restaurant / Sports Bar
Los Angeles Brewing Company - American Restaurant | Sports Bar in Los Angeles.
Dec 5, 2012 You Can Put Lipstick on a Pig, But It’s Still a Sports Bar "1) THE DIGS: Built inside the old Bank of America building, Los Angeles Brewing Company is a warehouse-sized upscale sports bar and restaurant, with massive TVs carrying pretty much every game imaginable, vintage design that includes wrought-iron and shiny brass lamps, beautiful marble tables, sleek tufted couches, and purse hooks beneath the bar for the ladies (all three of them). 2) THE GRUB: Upscale bar food include pulled-pork sandwiches, Reubens, fish and chips, steak, and several salads. Entrées are mostly between $10 and $13. 3) AND THE GROG: 100-odd craft brews on the taps, seasonal ales, and an extensive wine selection for those averse to suds, as well as a tidy selection of “organic” cocktails and some Prohibition-era hooch in line with the vintage aesthetic. 4) THE CROWD: Los of business types during the day. General sports-loving crowd of downtowners, groups of friends getting lunch, lawyers, finance types, etc. Long Happy Hour that runs noon–7pm AND 10–midnight invites preppy college kids on a budget to join in on the fun. Anyone hoping to find an actual brewery onsite will be disappointed. DJs try and create more of a club vibe at night, though with actual clubs in the area to choose from, this isn’t really a dance destination (though that doesn’t mean some people don’t try). Place is too big to be intimate, so date-nighters don’t really come here, but it’s a solid pregame spot for those looking to avoid a dive. 5) END OF WEEK: Brunch on weekends from 10am–2pm includes bottomless mimosas for $10. 6) IN SHORT: Nice, lots of dudes, not really sure what it wants to be. Probably would serve as a decent time for all but not going to blow anybody’s mind. " hide
